Waarom zou ik antifouling willen gebruiken?
Antifouling wordt gebruikt onder boten om de aangroei van organismen op het onderwaterschip van de boot te voorkomen. Als een boot regelmatig in het water wordt gebruikt, hebben de ondergedompelde delen van de romp de neiging om begroeid te raken met organismen zoals algen, pokken en mosselen. Deze aangroei kan verschillende problemen veroorzaken:
Toename van de weerstand:De aanhechting van organismen op de romp van de boot verhoogt de weerstand als de boot door het water beweegt. Dit kan leiden tot verminderde snelheid en een hoger brandstofverbruik.
Vermindering van wendbaarheid: Een aangegroeide romp kan de wendbaarheid van de boot verminderen, wat vooral belangrijk is voor zeilers en andere booteigenaren die precisie en responsiviteit vereisen.
Corrosie: Sommige organismen kunnen corrosie van het onderwaterschip veroorzaken, wat de structurele integriteit van de boot kan aantasten.
Gewichtstoename: De ophoping van aangroei kan leiden tot een toename van het gewicht van de boot, wat op zijn beurt de prestaties kan beïnvloeden.
Antifouling coatings bevatten doorgaans chemicaliën die de hechting en groei van deze organismen ontmoedigen. Deze coatings zorgen voor een glad oppervlak dat minder vatbaar is voor aangroei, waardoor de prestaties van de boot behouden blijven en de onderhoudsvereisten verminderen. Het is echter belangrijk milieuvriendelijke antifouling producten te overwegen, omdat sommige traditionele antifoulings met giftige stoffen schadelijk kunnen zijn voor het mariene ecosysteem.

Naast deze conventionele antifoulings hebben we ook de B-Free Explore van International. Deze nieuwe generatie biocidevrije foul-release coating is aangroei werend op een duurzame manier.
Welke antifouling heb ik nodig?
Niet alle soorten antifouling kunnen toegepast worden op verschillende ondergronden. Heeft u een onbekend product op uw onderwaterschip, gebruik dan een sluitlaat. Bijvoorbeeld Primocon van International of de Epifanes Antifouling primer CR. Hierna kunnen dan minimaal twee lagen van de gewenste antifouling aangebracht worden. In het geval van het overstappen van een bestaand systeem naar B-Free Explore brengt u eerst een laag B-Free Conversion Coat aan, daarna een laag B-Free Tiecoat en vervolgens twee lagen B-Free Explore.

Benodigdheden voor het aanbrengen van de antifouling
Allereerst is het ontvetten van het onderwaterschip met bv International Super Cleaner en een scrub pad een goed begin. Als het onderwaterschip verder goed in tact is heeft u het op die manier in een keer ontvet en opgeruwd. Het opbrengen van de antifouling kan met een vachtroller, een bokkepoot is handig voor de moeilijke plekjes. Ook voor verfbakken, inlegbakjes en verfrolhouders kunt u bij onze winkel bootshop4all terecht. Voor de persoonlijke bescherming is het verstandig om een mondkapje, overall en handschoenen te dragen.
